Undergraduate Yan Jinye from the Faculty of Medicine Delivers Anti-Drug Presentations in Macao Special Administrative Region

Author: Yan Jie Date: 2025-12-18

From December 11 to 12, Yan Jinye, an undergraduate student majoring in clinical medicine in the Class of 2022 at the Faculty of Medicine of Ningbo University, participated as a youth representative in the launch ceremony of the "Second Macao Youth International Anti-Drug Ambassador Training Program" in the Macao Special Administrative Region. She also conducted巡回宣讲 (巡回宣讲) on the outcomes of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs Youth Forum at Pui Ching Middle School and Keang Peng School in Macao. This event marked the first time a student from the Faculty of Medicine participated in international anti-drug exchanges, fully showcasing the professional competence and youthful responsibility of medical students in the field of public health.

Yan Jinye stood out in the national youth representative selection and traveled to Macao alongside Nanjing representative Ren Sirui. At the launch ceremony held at the Macao Lin Zexu Memorial Museum, the two youth representatives delivered a keynote presentation titled "Evidence-Based Prevention: Anti-Drug Practices from a Medical Perspective" to representatives from the Macao SAR government’s Social Welfare Bureau, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Judicial Police, and over 120 teachers and students. Distinguished from traditional presentations, Yan Jinye leveraged her expertise as a medical student to explain the principles of drug addiction from the physiological mechanism of the "out-of-control brain" and analyze the socio-psychological triggers of drug abuse among adolescents using the psychological theory of "multiple risk factors." She innovatively proposed the concept of "evidence-based prevention." Integrating the international standards of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with clinical medical thinking, she systematically introduced international models such as Portugal's "Medical Bus" and Singapore's "Edutainment" approach, constructing a "school-community-family" triangular prevention model. Her insights were highly praised by Macao counterparts.

A representative from the Macao Youth Federation commented, "By interpreting anti-drug efforts from a medical professional perspective, Yan Jinye has made prevention work more scientific and persuasive, setting an excellent example for Macao's youth."

During her stay in Macao, Yan Jinye also visited the Healthy Lifestyle Education Center under the Macao Social Welfare Bureau and engaged in in-depth exchanges with Macao youth groups, building a communication bridge for anti-drug cooperation between youth from both regions. She stated, "Anti-drug efforts are a cause that protects people's lives and health, aligning closely with the mission of medicine. Youth influencing youth—today's choices determine the drug-free society of tomorrow."

It is reported that Yan Jinye previously underwent multiple rounds of selection by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). In March of this year, she participated in the 2025 United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs Youth Forum, expert lectures, and the drafting of the annual declaration in Vienna, showcasing the engagement of new-era medical students in global health governance. The Faculty of Medicine has long been committed to cultivating medical talents with both global perspectives and a sense of social responsibility. Yan Jinye's exchange visit to Macao is a vivid embodiment of the Faculty of Medicine's educational philosophy of "博学守仁" (extensive learning and upholding benevolence).
